As an Award Winning Speaking Expert, I speak to a very diverse audience of both men and women.  A few months back I wrote an article on how to present to females and what they need in your audience. I had a light bulb moment and realized that I needed to shed some light on the male perspective too!

No matter what your gender is, you need to know these 3 very important speaking strategies when speaking to “MOST” Men:

# 1 – Be the authority – Weak and wishy-washy confidence isn’t going to cut it with most guys. If you don’t believe that you know your stuff, why should they. You have to see yourself as an expert in your industry and showcase your skills during your presentation. Watch for ineffective body language like tilting or swaying because that will absolutely be perceived as weakness and uncertainty.

# 2 – Stay in total control no matter what is going on around you – If you become flustered in uncomfortable presentation situations, most men will lose respect for you. You need to appear cool, calm and composed even if someone just asked you an off the wall question or you have someone or something in your audience who is disturbing your presentation. You need to handle those situation like a pro that is in control, even if it is your first time.

# 3 – Focus, Focus, Focus – Many men become irritated by flighty and unfocused presentation behavior. That is where the speaker is just all over the place. They may look like they had 5 Red Bulls or the Energizer Bunny on steroids who just can’t focus
for more than few seconds at a time. They bounce from idea to idea and their presentation lacks any type of structure. When you are presenting you need to have a clear focused plan that moves you seamlessly from each point in your presentation.

What do you do if you feel like you are supposed to or need to temporarily do something unplanned in your presentation? I am known for adding intuitive insights into my presentations. The insights happen when I feel my heart is telling me I need to share something that I had not planned to share for the benefit of the audience. Ultimately, it is my job to determine when it is the right time for me to share it and get right back on track with the focused structure of my presentation.
Men are as diverse as women are so not every guy will fit into all of these categories. Keep in mind whether your audience is filled
with a thousand, a hundred or just a couple of men; remember that you have to present your information in a way that men can connect with you and your message.

Start implementing these essential strategies during your next presentation!

Abundant Blessings!
