It took me forever to realize that I needed to ask for HELP, especially when it came to my speaking events! I learned a valuable lesson. I was speaking at a Powerful Women’s Event with approximately 100 business women. After my presentation, people came rushing over to my table to purchase my programs. I had to process the credit cards, autograph their books and answer questions. Some people couldn’t wait long and had to leave. All I had to do was ask someone to help me in advance.
Why didn’t I ask for help?
I was raised to be independent and to not rely on others. I grew up in a single parent household. My mother was fearlessly strong and very independent. I thought that was the way I had to be!
I am now realizing how truly ineffective that is. How can I do it all on my own? I just can’t go it alone. When I started to ask for help, I was literally in awe of how many people were willing and ready to help me.
Think about this. You are doing your own workshop and you didn’t ask anyone to help you. You are trying to do everything yourself. Is it really a smart idea?
What would you do if during your presentation:
- If the room temperature got too hot and your audience started to get sleepy?
- You throat got really dry and you are out of water?
- There was a loud noise outside the room?
- Your back of the room sales table got bombarded with individuals ready to purchase?
