I often hear “They are such a great speaker. They must have been born that way.”
Have you put others on a pedestal thinking they just have it?
Do you believe that you will never be as good as them?
In the past that is exactly what I did. I used to compare myself to everyone else. That is not fun! I just couldn’t live that way anymore!
Investing in ourselves to become masters.
Several years ago, I went to Las Vegas for a conference. In my spare time, I went to a comedy show with two friends. We had a really great time. Later on that evening, my friends went to the same comedy show with their son.
I am invested.
When I saw them the next day, they were in awe that the comedian did “exactly” the same show. Everything was the same. Even the guest he grabbed from the audience was planned. It was the same girl. She was part of his act. The comedian made every part of his presentation seemed unplanned, unrehearsed and completely easy. My friends and I realized that he has certainly mastered his craft and he must have invested in “training” to be that good!
When you compare yourself to someone else, you are tearing yourself down.
When you start to believe someone is “better than you”, “has it easier than you” or “is born with that talent” remember these key points:
#1They have probably invested in being their best.
This is a great quote from Dale Carnegies “Great Speakers are not born, they are TRAINED.” Individuals who are masters at their craft have put in the time, energy and money into being their best and that includes Professional Athletes, Successful CEOs to Billion Dollar Speakers.
#2 Use their success as an opportunity to be inspired.
Are they doing something that you would like to do?
The absolute reality is if they can do it, you can do it too. It doesn’t matter how many speakers, trainers, teachers and business success stories there are. There is always room for more!
Plus, no one can duplicate you, your experiences and exactly how you would do it.
#3 Utilize your unique talents and gifts.
We all have our own unique message, thoughts and ideas to share. Others are attracted to each of us for a reason. The clients who work with me are attracted to my message and how I share it. It is the same for you. There is no one like us! Set your sites on your desires and let the unique you Shine!
