When I first started my business, I didn’t have a clue what I was doing when it came to promoting my products and services. I have learned a lot over the years and have handled my own personal obstacles. In my 10 years of being a business owner, I have met hundreds and possibly thousands of individuals who struggle with the same things I used to struggle with. I want to help you overcome them too! Here are 3 Speaking Roadblocks that you need to conquer now:
1. Assuming that your audience has heard this before
This one literally stops people in their tracks before they ever get started. They are so worried that their audience has heard the same information before that they do nothing. The reality is that yes, some may have heard the same information before. However, no one can share it in the exact and unique way that you do. Plus, the first time they heard it from someone else; they may have not been ready to full embrace it. When you take that in and realize that they haven’t really heard it before, you will clearly understand that they are ready to hear it form you with your unique and wonderful perspective.
2. Assuming your audience can’t afford it
This one is a BIG ONE! I have absolutely done this in the past. I have made this assumption and I was certainly off the mark. I have learned my lesson so I hope you do too. If you have positioned your offer properly and showcased why they need it, they will do everything they can to make it happen. I have known individuals that didn’t have any money at that moment, however they wanted a program that they were willing to do whatever it takes to make it happen including have a garage sale and borrowing money from a relative. Their commitment was huge and their desire to change was significant so they found a way to make it happen.
3. Assuming a resistant audience participant isn’t going to do it
Actually, it is often the exact opposite. I learned this one first hand. When I did my first workshop 10 years ago, there was a gentleman in my training that gave me such a hard time. He resisted the group exercise and repeatedly asked me challenging questions. I never thought that he would purchase my coaching program. However, because I was able to hold my own and not let his resistance impact me, he realized I was the real deal and hired me as his coach. His resistance was his way of protecting himself. I see it all the time. If you address the resistance with understanding and conviction, they too will realize that you are the real deal and the resistance wall with come crumbling down.
What do you do now? Let go of these roadblocks and release ineffective patterns and belief systems. They no longer serve you and it is time to let them go for good! Yes, you can shift from what doesn’t work and implement what does work.
