When the right JV Partnership comes along, it can be incredibly rewarding and beneficial to both parties. When done well, it ends up being a total win-win-win for your JV partners, for your business growth and for all the wonderful clients and groups that get to learn from you.

I love these tips because they have helped my clients and I create JV partnerships that have absolutely exceeded our expectations and ensured we reach our goals when it came to impact and income. 

JV Insider Tip 1: It Starts as a Conversation. 

When you’re approaching potential joint venture partners with a big reach, you want think how can I GIVE FIRST to start to build a reciprocal relationship.  As you may know, when you give to others, it always comes back to you in a positive way!

When you do contact potential JV Partners, it’s very important to get to the point and tell them why you are contacting them.  Just like you they are busy too! 

First start by peaking a potential JV partner’s interest with one of my handy dandy conversation starters. You might say, “I love what you are doing. I would love to talk with you later to see how I can be part of _________.” Or, “I would love to see how we can support/promote each other. What do you have coming up that I can help promote?”

JV Insider Tip 2: Back It Up with a Contract.

No matter how amazing you think a JV Partner is, remember this… before you ever say “Yes” to any JV Partnership, make sure it is backed up by a formal agreement that spells everything out from time frames, expectations, financial obligations, pre-event and post-event outcomes.  

Too many times people have said, “I heard you say” and “I thought it was clear, that you would….” All parties must mutually agree to the contract and sign it. Don’t be afraid to put what you want and need in writing because successful people know how important this is.  Remember to ask for what you want so you can avoid what you don’t want. 

JV Insider Tip 3: Never Ever, Give Up. 

The first few times that you reach out to a potential JV partner takes practice. It can be disappointing when you don’t get your desired “Yes” response from potential joint venture partners.  They usually have many opportunities in front of them so they may need time to think about it or fit it into their calendar. 

You never know when the next Big JV opportunity will help make all you dreams come true and put you in front of much bigger audiences so keep going when most other speakers have given up.  

Remember, it is not the number of JV’s.  It is the quality and connection that really counts most.   Sometimes it only takes one great one to start.  The right Strategic Alliance can put you in front of thousands. It has happened for me, it can happen for you!
